Why Study MBBS Abroad in 2026?

NMC's seat matrix for 2026-27 lists 1,36,939 MBBS seats across 823 Indian colleges. NTA registered 22.79 lakh candidates for NEET UG 2026. That is roughly one seat for every 17 candidates, and it is why students who qualified NEET but missed a government seat compare WDOMS-listed universities abroad, from Russia and Georgia to Bangladesh and the Caribbean. Every destination on this page teaches the six-year course in English and leads to the same exam back home: the FMGE.

A Fraction of Indian Private Fees

Estimated 6-year packages start around $14,500 (₹13.5 lakh approx) versus ₹60 lakh–₹1.5 crore for the full course at an Indian private medical college - with no donation or capitation fee.

FMGL-2021 Compliant, FMGE Eligible

Programmes follow NMC's FMGL 2021 rules - minimum 54-month course, 12-month internship, English medium - so graduates can sit FMGE/NExT and practise in India.

English Medium - No IELTS/TOEFL

Full English-medium instruction for international students. Admission needs only NEET qualification and 50% PCB in Class 12 - no separate entrance exam.

Global Career Pathways

Clinical training in large teaching hospitals, with onward routes to FMGE/NExT (India), USMLE (USA), and PLAB (UK) - from affordable Central Asia programmes to EU-recognised degrees and Caribbean MD routes.

*Every figure except Russia's is the six-year range published on our own page for that country. Russia's is computed from university fee orders and the live rouble rate, and includes hostel, insurance, food and living. Georgia's is the roster universities' published tuition only — living is on top. Uzbekistan's is an indicative band anchored on the one fee its roster publishes. All of these move: universities reprice every year and exchange rates shift, so treat the column as a bracket and ask us for a current quote for a specific university. FMGE column: NBEMS institute-wise 2024 report, totalled by country. Across all countries, 20,382 of 79,000 candidates passed in 2024 (25.8%).

How to actually choose

Start from the exam and work backwards. Whichever country you pick, an Indian registration runs through the FMGE, and 20,382 of 79,000 candidates cleared it in 2024. The country averages in the table hide big spreads: inside Russia alone, 2024 pass rates among 100+-candidate cohorts ran from 43.4% at Orenburg (194 of 447) down to 18.4% at Stavropol (132 of 719). Pick the university on its record first, then the country, then the price.

Two phrases to ignore wherever you meet them. No university anywhere is "NMC approved": NMC states on its own study-abroad page that it endorses no list of foreign institutions. And WHO does not accredit medical schools at all. What you can actually check: the university's WDOMS listing, its NBEMS pass record, and whether the degree meets the FMGL-2021 criteria, meaning 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same institution, English medium, and a licence to practise in that country.

The year-by-year numbers behind this page are on our FMGE pass rates hub, and the ranked list is at best FMGE pass-rate universities. If you want them run against your own budget and NEET score, counselling costs nothing.
