Why Choose Uzbekistan for MBBS in 2026?
Uzbekistan combines the lowest total MBBS cost among WDOMS-listed Central Asian destinations with the simplest admission process - no IELTS, no entrance exam, government-regulated fees, and direct flights from India. For budget-conscious students seeking an internationally recognised MBBS degree without the financial burden of Russian or Eastern European options, Uzbekistan is an increasingly compelling choice.
Cheapest WDOMS-listed MBBS in Central Asia - ₹16–22L Total
At ₹16–22 lakh for the complete 6-year program, Uzbekistan is the most affordable WDOMS-listed MBBS destination in Central Asia - cheaper than Kazakhstan (₹25–40L) and Belarus (₹28–45L), and on par with Russia's most affordable universities. Government universities keep fees fixed with no surprise hikes. Monthly living expenses in Tashkent average ₹8,000–12,000.
No IELTS, No Entrance Exam Beyond NEET
Uzbekistan has the simplest admission process among all MBBS-abroad destinations. No IELTS test (unlike Kazakhstan which mandates IELTS 5.5–6.5), no university entrance exam, no donation. Just a NEET qualifying scorecard and Class 12 PCB. Admission letter in 2–3 weeks, visa in 7–15 days - among the fastest in the world.
Government Universities - No Fee Hikes, State Regulated
Five of six recommended universities are government-owned and state-regulated. This means legally fixed tuition, no sudden fee increases, and university accountability to the Uzbek Ministry of Health. Students are protected from the predatory fee-hike practices seen at some private universities elsewhere.
Fastest-Growing MBBS Destination - 60+ NMC Additions Since 2019
The Government of Uzbekistan has actively invested in healthcare education infrastructure since 2017, and the number of Uzbek institutions whose graduates sit FMGE has grown sharply since 2019. Note that NMC publishes no list of recognised foreign universities - and in April 2026 it issued an alert naming several Uzbek institutions. Tashkent Medical Academy - founded in 1919 - now has a 1,200-bed teaching hospital with modern simulation labs.
Direct Flights from India - Delhi to Tashkent ~4–5 Hours
Air India and Uzbekistan Airways operate regular direct flights between Delhi (IGI) and Tashkent. The journey takes 4–5 hours - shorter than flights to Philippines (7+ hours) or Caribbean destinations (20+ hours). Students from Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata have connecting options via Delhi. Emergency return home is straightforward.
Tashkent - Modern Capital, Central Asian Silk Road Culture
Tashkent is the largest city in Central Asia (3+ million population) with modern metro, shopping malls, international restaurants, and a growing Indian food scene. The city is generally safe, walkable, and student-friendly. Samarkand and Bukhara are UNESCO World Heritage cities - extraordinary cultural environments for an MBBS journey.

Medical Universities in Uzbekistan for 2026
NMC alert — read this before shortlisting
In April 2026 the National Medical Commission issued an alert about admissions to medical institutions in Uzbekistan, following a communication from the Embassy of India in Tashkent. It names Bukhara State Medical Institute, Samarkand State Medical University, Tashkent State Medical University and TIT Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore — an offshore campus of TSMU’s Termez branch operating inside India. The notice separately names TSMU Termez Branch and Bukhara State University. Two of them are in the list below and are flagged on their cards.
We are not telling you these universities are disqualified — that is not ours to decide, and the alert is not a ban. We are telling you the notice exists so you can read it yourself. Open the NMC alert (PDF) and check it against your own shortlist before you pay anything.
How to read these cards — and what “WDOMS-listed” really means
NMC publishes no approved list of foreign universities — it says so itself. So no site, including this one, can honestly tell you a Uzbek university is “WDOMS-listed”. What decides your future registration is whether your degree is NMC-compliant under FMGL-2021: 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same institution, English medium, and a qualification that licenses you to practise in that country.
So we show you the three things that are checkable per university — its World Directory listing, its actual NBEMS FMGE record with denominators, and any NMC alert naming it. Run the full FMGL-2021 checklist at nmc.org.in against your shortlist before you pay a single rupee. We explain the whole thing, with every NMC notice that names a foreign university, in is my university WDOMS-listed?

FMGE Preparation Note: Unlike the Bangladesh MBBS curriculum which closely mirrors the Indian MBBS structure, the Uzbekistan curriculum follows the CIS framework. Students must actively map Uzbek course content to FMGE/NExT topics. Begin structured FMGE preparation using Indian resources (Marrow, PrepLadder, DAMS) from Year 3 alongside regular coursework. Self-directed preparation is essential - do not rely solely on university FMGE support.
NMC Compliance & MBBS Validity in India
For your Uzbekistan MBBS degree to be valid in India, five NMC conditions must be met:
FMGL-2021 Compliance
Your university must meet the FMGL-2021 criteria (nmc.org.in). For Uzbekistan specifically, this is CRITICAL - two Uzbek universities carry an NMC alert, so check each one individually per university, per intake year. A.J Trust verifies NMC status for every recommended institution before counselling students.
WDOMS Listing
Your university must appear in the World Directory of Medical Schools (wdoms.org). All WDOMS-listed Uzbek universities are WDOMS-listed - confirm independently at wdoms.org using your university name.
English-Medium Instruction
The entire MBBS must be taught in English for international students. All WDOMS-listed Uzbek universities offer dedicated English-medium streams. Verify with your specific university that the English-medium batch is properly structured and documented.
Valid NEET Score at Admission
Your NEET scorecard must be valid (qualifying score) at the time of admission. NMC cross-checks NEET roll numbers for FMGE/NExT eligibility. Ensure your NEET score is current and qualifying - do not apply with an expired or non-qualifying score.
Internship at Same University
The 1-year compulsory internship must be completed at the same Uzbek university. You cannot transfer the internship to India or any other country. This is a hard NMC requirement.
Career Pathways After MBBS in Uzbekistan
An Uzbekistan MBBS from a WDOMS-listed university opens six global career pathways. The key priority for Uzbekistan graduates is structured FMGE/NExT preparation - students who begin self-directed preparation from Year 3 significantly improve their pass rates.
Practice in India
Pass the NExT exam (replacing FMGE from 2026), register with your State Medical Council, and begin medical practice in India. Students from Tashkent Medical Academy (~28% FMGE) perform best. Self-directed FMGE preparation from Year 3 is strongly recommended - use PrepLadder, Marrow, or DAMS alongside regular coursework.
NEET-PG Specialisation
Qualify NExT Step 1 (FMGE equivalent) and then NExT Step 2 to become NEET-PG eligible. Begin targeted NEET-PG preparation from Year 4 of your Uzbekistan MBBS using standard Indian resources.
United Kingdom (UK)
Clear PLAB Part 1 (MCQ) and PLAB Part 2 (OSCE), obtain GMC registration, and enter NHS Foundation Training. WDOMS-listed Uzbek universities with WDOMS listing are PLAB-eligible. Strong NHS demand for international medical graduates continues.
Middle East (UAE, Saudi, Qatar)
Uzbekistan MBBS graduates from WDOMS-listed universities are eligible for DHA, MOH, HAAD, and SCFHS licensing in Gulf countries. Tax-free salaries and fast licensing make this a popular first career step before returning to India.
USA (USMLE)
Graduates of ECFMG-approved Uzbek institutions can pursue the USMLE pathway. Tashkent Medical Academy and select other universities qualify. ECFMG eligibility should be verified per university before applying if USA practice is the target.
Canada (MCCQE)
WDOMS-listed Uzbek universities are eligible for the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) pathway. Canada has growing demand for internationally trained physicians, particularly in rural provinces.
