How to check an authorisation letter yourself
The documents above are letters and powers of attorney that Russian universities issued to A.J Trust. A letter like these is worth asking any consultancy for, ours included, but it only means something once you have checked it against the university itself.
- Ask for the letter that names the university you are applying to. A letter from one university says nothing about another.
- Check that it names the consultancy you are dealing with, and that it carries a date and a signature from the university.
- Write to the university's international admissions office, using the address on its official website, and ask whether the agent is authorised. Their answer settles it; a scan shown on a website does not.
- Pay tuition only into the university's own account, and keep the university's receipt.
