MBBS admission consultancy for Russia: what we do, step by step

A.J Trust takes Indian students from a first counselling call to a hostel room at a Russian medical university, and keeps guiding them until they graduate. Below are the steps, what is free, how the university fees are paid and what sits outside them, and the checks to run on any consultant before you hand over money.

Counselling is free, and you can do all of it online from anywhere in India.

Step by step

How admission works, from the first call to your first weeks in Russia

This is the order for Russia, our main destination.

  1. Free counselling

Tell us your NEET score, your budget and what you want from the degree. Qualifying NEET only makes you eligible; each university then sets its own entry requirements, so we match your actual score to universities likely to accept you. We also plan the budget and any education loan with you; our education loan guide compares five banks’ terms.
  2. A shortlist you can check

For Russia we shortlist universities listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS). We compare them on fees, on whether the course is taught in English, and on their record in FMGE, the screening test Indian students with a foreign medical degree must pass to register in India. NBEMS, the exam board that runs FMGE, publishes that record in its institute-wise reports, and our FMGE pass rates page shows it with candidate counts. Where a university publishes no fee, we get a written quote from the university before you plan around any number. Before admission we give every family a city-by-city briefing on safety, and we ask you to read the Indian Embassy in Moscow’s advisories as well.
  3. Documents

    For Russia you need:
    • Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets and certificates
    • your NEET scorecard
    • a passport valid for at least 1.5 years from the date the visa starts, and passport-size photographs
    • your birth certificate
    • an HIV certificate in English, with the details Russia's Health Ministry Order 1060n requires (our student visa guide lists them)
    • a medical fitness certificate, if your university asks for one
We help with the passport, the legal paperwork, checking scholarship eligibility, and the documents and application for an education loan. Other countries ask for different papers, so check the page for your country.
  4. Application and invitation letter

We send your application straight to the university. If it accepts you, it asks Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs to issue your official invitation letter, and you cannot apply for the student visa without it.
  5. Student visa

Russia’s official list for a study visa is your passport, the application form, two photographs, the fee, the invitation and an HIV certificate; our student visa guide covers each one. Apostilled school certificates with Russian translations are for the university’s admission, not for the visa. The Russian Embassy’s tariff, checked on 18 October 2026, prices a student visa issued within 4–20 working days, or within 3 working days at a higher fee, so start early, especially near the September intake. Our visa help for Russia is free: we guide you through the documents, the translations and the submission.
  6. First-year tuition

Then the first year’s tuition is due. Pay it to the university itself, on its own contract or invoice; the fees section below explains why.
  7. Pre-departure and travel

Before you fly, we give you an orientation on Russian law, on settling in, and on travel and safety. We help with forex cards, the choice of airline, excess baggage and travel arrangements for parents. Students travel to Russia in guided batches.
  8. Arrival in Russia

We arrange your airport pickup and an escort to your university, your hostel allotment and room registration, and your place in the Indian mess. We also help with university paperwork, a local SIM card, medical insurance and the medical check-up, and library membership. The Russia page lists a one-time arrival and settling-in charge, separate from the university fees.
  9. During the course

While you study we help with visa extensions, visas for parents who visit, academic reports to parents, FMGE coaching and emergencies at any hour, and we keep guiding you until you graduate. The full lists are in the sections below.

Fees

What is free, and how the fees are paid

Free of charge

  • Counselling, including matching your NEET score to universities and the shortlist, online or in person.
  • A written fee quote from the university, wherever a university publishes no fee.
  • Help with the Russian student visa.

What you pay, and to whom

Pay each year’s fee directly to the university, against its own contract or invoice, and never put a lump sum into an agent’s account. RUDN (Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, in Moscow) shows how this works. Its handbook says a new student gets a payment referral from RUDN’s Commercial Department when the tuition contract is signed, and pays by the deadlines set in that contract. In a note of 13 April 2022, RUDN recommended paying only against an invoice that shows its current bank details.

Do not pay all six years upfront for a discount. Ask the university itself whether it bills year by year and whether any multi-year discount exists.

The fee estimates on our Russia page cover tuition, hostel and medical insurance for the six years. Flights, food, visa renewals and winter clothing are extra, and so are the one-time charges on admission and arrival, which the Russia page lists separately from the fee tables.

Before you pay any fee, we give you a written, itemised cost sheet covering every expense. Check each line against the university’s contract.

Note: In its alert of 21 July 2025, the National Medical Commission (NMC), India’s regulator for medical education, lists “excessive fees being charged” and “denial of fee refunds upon withdrawal from the course” among the concerns raised about some foreign institutions. Ask the university for its refund rule in writing before you pay. Sources checked 18 October 2026.

Credentials

Letters from Russian medical universities

Our credentials page shows these documents:

  • Stavropol State Medical UniversityPower of attorney
  • Kazan State Medical UniversityPower of attorney
  • Rostov State Medical UniversityAuthorisation letter

Treat a letter on any consultant’s website, ours included, as a claim to confirm with the university. Ask the consultant for the letter from the university you are applying to, then write to that university’s international office and ask whether the consultant may send students for your intake.

Checklist

How to check any MBBS consultant before you pay

Run these checks on every consultant you speak to, including us. Each one links to the official source. Sources checked 18 October 2026.

  1. 01Get the letter and the course details in writing

Ask the consultant for the university’s authorisation letter, the programme’s WDOMS record, and its course length and internship arrangement, all on paper. NMC’s page for students going abroad advises getting the fee structure and the course details (what is taught, how long it lasts, and the internship) directly from the university concerned. Then compare what the university sends you with what the consultant told you.
  2. 02Check the degree, not a list

On the same page, NMC says it “does not endorse any list of Foreign Medical Institutions/ Universities for MBBS or equivalent course”. The list people remember belonged to the erstwhile Medical Council of India and was built from information sent by Indian embassies and high commissions. So when a consultant calls a university “NMC approved”, ask which document they mean. What NMC does set is a test for your degree, in regulation 4 of the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 (FMGL-2021):
    • a course of at least 54 months
    • an internship of at least 12 months at the same foreign institution
    • teaching in English
    • the mandatory subjects listed in Schedule-I
    • registration with the body that licenses doctors in the country that awarded the degree, at par with that country's own citizens
    • back in India, a supervised internship of at least 12 months, and passing the National Exit Test (NExT) or another test NMC mandates (NExT has not started, so for now that test is FMGE)
Schedule-I adds that the whole course, training and internship must be done at the same institution outside India, with no part in India or in a third country, and finished within ten years of joining. It also asks for the internship “in addition to” the course, and NMC’s FAQ on the regulations (Q17) treats it as a phase that comes after the course. So a programme sold as “5 years including internship” leaves at most 48 months of study once the 12-month internship is taken out, short of the 54 months the rule asks for.
  3. 03Look up the WDOMS record yourself

Search the university on the World Directory of Medical Schools. The directory itself says a listing “does not denote recognition, accreditation, or endorsement” by it or by the two organisations that run it, the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and FAIMER (WDOMS, About). The WHO published the earlier directory from 1953 to record where doctors were educated. In August 2007 it agreed to transfer the directory to the University of Copenhagen, and it became the Avicenna Directory, managed by WFME. If a consultant says “WHO approved”, ask to see the WHO document.
  4. 04Search NMC's alerts for the university's name

NMC names institutions when it warns students. Its alert of 1 April 2026, issued about admissions in Uzbekistan, names Bukhara State Medical Institute, Samarkand State Medical University, Tashkent State Medical University, and TIT Institute of Medical Sciences in Bangalore (an offshore campus of Tashkent State Medical University’s Termez branch). Its alert of 21 July 2025 tells students to avoid three institutions in Belize and the Chirchik branch of Tashkent State Medical University. Both tell students to consult the Indian Embassy of the country concerned for updates on recognition or blacklisting. We list the NMC notices since 2021 that name a foreign university in one place.
  5. 05Walk away from a guaranteed seat

The same April 2026 alert says that no institution can guarantee admission outside the prescribed process, “including qualification in the NEET examination”, and tells students not to rely on unauthorised or unverified agents or intermediaries. A seat promised without a qualifying NEET result is a reason to stop.
  6. 06Pay the university, and only after checking it

The April 2026 alert asks students and parents to make sure the institution is duly recognised and compliant with the regulations before committing or paying any fees. Then pay tuition to the university against its own invoice, keep the receipt, and get the refund rule in writing.
  7. 07Report what looks wrong

If anyone offers you an admission that looks illegal or misleading, report the institution or the person to NMC, as its April 2026 alert asks. When you are unsure, check with NMC or the Indian mission in that country.

No. Counselling is free, and you can do all of it online. We match your NEET score and budget to universities likely to accept you and draw up the shortlist with you. Where a university publishes no fee, we get a written quote from that university before you plan around any figure.

Yes, for tuition. Pay each year's tuition to the university, against its own contract or invoice, and never pay a lump sum into an agent's account. Do not pay all six years upfront for a discount either: ask the university whether it bills year by year and whether any multi-year discount exists. The itemised cost sheet shows each of them before you pay.

Russia is our main destination. The site also has guides for America (Caribbean MD programmes), Armenia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belarus, Georgia, Guyana, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, the Philippines, Poland, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, which makes 15 destinations. In some of them, such as Georgia, the Philippines and the Caribbean schools, the degree is called an MD. It is a first medical degree, like an MBBS, not the postgraduate MD the letters mean in India.

Yes, and the help is free. You can apply only once you have the invitation, which Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs issues at your university's request. The Russian Embassy's tariff, checked on 18 October 2026, prices a student visa issued within 4–20 working days, or within 3 working days at a higher fee, so start early, especially near the September intake. We guide you through the documents, the translations and the submission.

The Russia page also lists a one-time arrival and settling-in charge, separate from the university fees.

Ask for the university's authorisation letter, then confirm with the university that the consultant may send students for your intake. Look up the university's WDOMS record and any NMC alert that names it, and check the degree against NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021: at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same university on top of that, teaching in English, the mandatory subjects, and registration to practise in that country on the same terms as its own citizens. Back in India you then do a 12-month supervised internship. NMC keeps no approved list of foreign universities, and no institution can guarantee a seat outside the prescribed process, which includes qualifying NEET. Pay fees only to the university.
