Yes. NMC requires a qualifying NEET-UG score of every Indian who studies medicine abroad and later wants to sit the FMGE, and the Embassy of India in Dushanbe notes that the result is treated as your Eligibility Certificate, and that you must start the course within three years of its declaration. Avicenna itself does not ask for NEET; its admission rules instead interview international applicants in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Not at Avicenna. Its own admission rules for foreign students list nine documents and no English certificate - no IELTS, no TOEFL. Avicenna's English medium is confirmed in writing by Tajikistan's Health Ministry; at any other university, confirm the teaching language in writing before you pay. Expect to learn basic Tajik or Russian as well - the Embassy of India says it is part of the curriculum.

Yes, conditionally - and the condition is on your degree, not the university's name. NMC approves no foreign university. Under FMGL-2021 the degree must include at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same Tajik university, English-medium teaching, and a qualification that licenses you to practise in Tajikistan; you then pass the FMGE and complete a 12-month supervised internship in India. Avicenna's official records disagree on whether its study block is 60 months or 48, so get the study and internship split written on your admission letter. The criteria are on nmc.org.in.

In NBEMS's 2024 report, 311 of 1,196 Tajikistan-trained candidates passed FMGE (26.00%), against 20,382 of 79,000 (25.80%) across all countries. Avicenna supplies almost the whole cohort - 1,195 of those 1,196 - so the country figure is effectively its figure, and it has not always beaten the all-country rate: in 2022 it passed 207 of 941 (22.00%) against 12,148 of 52,030 (23.35%) overall. Across NBEMS's 2019-2025 reports it passed 1,174 of 5,939 (19.77%). Start FMGE preparation alongside the university curriculum from Year 1, using Indian FMGE study materials (Marrow, PrepLadder, DAMS).

On what is checkable rather than on reputation: Avicenna Tajik State Medical University in Dushanbe. It has taught medicine since 1939, and it is the only Tajik school whose WDOMS record carries an ECFMG certification note (graduation years 1953 onward). It is also the only one with a real FMGE record - 1,174 passes from 5,939 candidates across NBEMS's 2019-2025 reports (19.77%), with a best year of 311 of 1,195 (26.03%) in 2024. No Tajik university is “NMC approved”, “WHO approved” or “FAIMER approved”, because none of those statuses exists: WHO does not accredit medical schools, NMC endorses no list of foreign universities, and FAIMER assigns a directory id rather than granting recognition.

The Embassy of India's advisory of 10 July 2026 describes the law-and-order situation in Dushanbe, where most universities are, as generally satisfactory, and says Tajik people are generally cordial towards Indians. It asks students to take care in public places late at night and with strangers, never to rent out their bank accounts or move money for third parties, and to register with the Embassy on arrival. All three have WDOMS-listed universities, but their FMGE records differ. In NBEMS's 2024 report, Tajikistan-trained candidates passed 311 of 1,196 (26.00%), Kyrgyzstan's 3,792 of 15,135 (25.05%) and Uzbekistan's 197 of 490 (40.20%) - Uzbekistan's on a far smaller cohort, which was 19 candidates in 2022. The Indian student communities differ as much: about 1,900 medical students in Tajikistan (Ministry of External Affairs, as on 15 June 2026), against 16,300 Indian students in Uzbekistan (MEA, April 2026) and an estimated 16,000 in Kyrgyzstan (Embassy of India, Bishkek, June 2026). Almost every Tajikistan-trained FMGE candidate comes from one university, Avicenna.
